There is this strange green stuff on the ground which, according to history, is called grass! Yes folks, after 8 weeks the snow has gone.
We have given the Carriage and Wagon Depts GUV storage van a good clean out and sorted out the stores into sections. We filled a large wheelie bin with tin cans, crisp packets and general rubbish! The manholes either side of the level crossing have finally been built up, after re-doing what the snow and frost had damaged. All we need to do now is fit the lids. The coke huts have had their fixings adjusted to suit the new layout and draught strips fitted to protect the contents. The south end doors of the CCT are undergoing repair – most of the planks on one side are shot but the framing underneath is good. All the steelwork has been removed for de-rusting, cleaning and repainting.
A start has been made on burning the brush cut down last summer but rain during the day put paid to dealing with a lot of it. Alex joined us down the line, supervising what was going on. He is growing nicely apart from a troublesome cough. There is a lot more to burn so if there are any budding pyromaniacs out there pop in and see us.
A new steel base for another North Eastern rotating ground signal has been manufactured by Michael.
