Well after much waiting we have taken delivery of our new (to us) rubber level crossing deck panels.  These have come from the Whitwell and Reepham Railway in Norfolk where they were surplus to requirements.  They came up by articulated lorry – not a regular sight at the station!  Unloading was simply achieved by tipping them off one side, then turning the lorry round and repeating the process – easily said unless you have trouble with the lorry and the grass verge!?!  Don’t forget to add to all this the weather, a mix of light drizzle and heavy rain.  We are doing a deal with them to swap the panels for surplus track work and have been working with our pway team to see what is available. We also provided the W & R boys with a ride out on the railway, dinner and a bed for the night, just in case they needed encouraging to come back again!

We have started neatly stacking the panels at the rear of the yard to await the time when we can install them, which will probably be after the Christmas running week.

Elsewhere, we have started cutting out the rotten ends of the shock open wagon ready for welding in the replacement sections we have prepared.  Tony has continued on his notice board, Beth has been doing the accounts and feeding everyone and Weighbridge Teas were open although the weather put paid to another bumper weekend.
