What a change from last weekend-nice, warm and sunny this time!  First up this weekend was the relocation of the marquee to ready it for a private event at the beginning of August.  This is necessary to allow the grass to recover as the marquee forces it a bit like a greenhouse, making it stringy and thin.

With this complete it was back into the yard to complete the neat stacking of the new level crossing deck panels.  These are now stacked according to type so we know what we have, what we need and what we can use elsewhere on the railway.  Meanwhile Tony was busy painting his final noticeboard for Goathland whilst Mike undertook further preparation work on the open wagon ends ready for welding in the new sections.  Two old travel cabin boxes have been cleaned down and painted/varnished so provide smarter toy boxes for Alex rather than the cardboard box we currently have at the station.  Some of the lead flashing on the gents glass roof has slipped so it has been refixed back into its correct position and the rainwater gutter cleared at the same time.  The front upstairs window on the cottage has had its frame cleaned down and primed.  All being well we hope to change the sash’s to double glazed ones this autumn, funding permitting.

We have the Junior Volunteers with us tomorrow (Monday) and have been getting ready for them today with the erection of safety fences and preparation of further cut down timber ready for them to move and stack.  There is also some painting to do, some concrete blocks to shift and some uneven ground to level.  That should keep them busy.

Weighbridge Teas were kept busy on both days with extra trade from a passing cycling event through the forest on Sunday.
