13/14th August 2011

Despite a poor weather forecast it has been a good weekend-mostly sunny and warm. Well done to all the weighbridge staff who had a busy time with lots of walkers and cyclists queuing for drinks, snacks and ice creams! On Saturday by had a visit from a Morgan Car Club then twelve mountain bikes were shoehorned into the brakevan of the lunchtime diner on Sunday for a ride to Pickering.
Richard laboured all day in the gardens dead heading roses and planting more new plants whilst Tony2 kept the station spick and span. Tony1 has nearly finished the last new notice board for Goathland while Paul called in to do more work on a webcam overlooking the platform so you can soon see the station whenever you want-not just so the Station Master can keep an eye on us when he is on holiday.
The new steel shelving for the warehouse building has been cleaned, painted and assembled by Brian and Stephen. Brian also removed overlapping paint from the windows on workshop coach no. 1111 and the waiting shelter as well as cleaning some windows of accumulated dirt ready for fitting to the carriage seating which is to be installed in the picnic area at Pickering.
Preparations were started for next weekend’s concert by Shadows tribute band “Legend” on Sunday 21st August. We look forward to seeing you all arrive by train to enjoy the music and the real ales on offer in our beer tent. Remember parking at the station will be at a premium.
Roger visited us to plan for next weekend’s visit from a group of the railway’s junior volunteers enabling us to plan a range of interesting activities for them to undertake. Lucky he came this weekend as our esteemed Station Master is on holiday and forgot to remind us!
