7th August 2011

A 3 day weekend this time with Friday a setting up day for the Noble Wedding in the late afternoon of Ivan, NYMR signalman and his new wife Lyndsay.  The event went very well with the Station Group providing a bar and opening up the Tea Hut for guests.  Thanks to Kevin, Elaine, Stephen, Mike, David and Sarah for their help setting up and serving all evening.

The rest of the weekend began with the big clear up from the night before(!) and the moving of the beer tent to its usual place ready for Legends concert on the 21st August when again there will be Shadows and 60’s Music with the Real Ale tent from 12noon until 5pm.  Travel to Levisham by train and avoid parking problems.

After much discussion and sketching we have commenced construction on the key display item for Wartime Weekend (see photo in gallery).  Can you work out what it will be?  Stephen has commenced a tidy up of the Warehouse whilst Simon and Andy did the same with the CCT.  We now have an undercover area to repair our platform benches and other large items.  Kevin has completed the cleaning out of the platform drainage channels, removing several bucketfuls of soil and weed.  Michael has fitted the new handrail on the Booking Office awning and given it a shiny top coat of black.  He was also instrumental in sorting out the blocked drain to the upstairs showers.

Weighbridge Teas were ‘steady away’ again and even received a post card from Australia (it took only 4 days!!) where Malcolm and Doreen are enjoying a break.

Just to prove to some people that I am human I missed 4 people from the ‘Thanks’ list for their help on Friday – Janice, Tony, Richard and Patience.  Sorry.   I must now go and berate my checker for missing them as well!
