Is anyone out there? We cannot see because of the fog! Otherwise it’s been a productive weekend again. The boggy land where we are trying to replace the lineside fence has benefitted from some further slot drains to discharge the standing water into the stream. The wearing of wellies was a necessity to do this!
Storeman Steve has been beavering away tidying up in the workshop coach – we can see the bench again (but for how long?). In the Warehouse he has been creating a new secure cupboard for the welding gear. The Great Eastern van has also undergone a tidy up and minor sort out. It should now be possible to store the teak benches in there during the winter, this will allow them to dry out ready for another coat of teak oil next spring.
A new all weather path has been part laid between the 2 cottages at the station which, amongst other things, allows Alex to get between the houses without getting muddy, now the winter is coming.
Further tidying up of the felled timber has occurred and the good green tops of a pair of these trees have been sent to Grosmont for their Christmas marquee.
Our friends from the Whitwell and Reepham Railway have been up again, this time to collect surplus track materials. This is a swop we have agreed with them in exchange for the level crossing panels. With lots of help from the Pway Dept at Newbridge the materials were selected and loaded with ease – its so easy with the correct crane!
Weighbridge Teas had a quiet weekend although some customers still loomed out of the fog. At least the relative quiet time allowed a start to be made on the year end stock check. Next weekend is the last weighbridge opening of the normal season before some of the staff go to Pickering to help on the Santa Specials in December but they will be open again on selected days around Xmas and the New Year (weather permitting – remember last year!).
