31st December 2011

Well it’s another year completed in the great circle of life. We have continued applying coats of paint and filler to the platform seats under repair, as well as a notice board for Newtondale Halt. Scrub growing in the ditches north of the station has been cut back and burnt on a New Years Eve bonfire, together with the old fencing materials which were beyond even our re-use.
We have finally finished lifting and packing the siding level right up to the buffer stop! All we need now is more ash to backfill the sleeper bays and create the walking route. This has already been promised as part of the track renewal of the adjacent main line which begins in just a weeks time.
We are deeply sorry to report the passing away of one of our regular Levisham signalmen and the NYMR’s Signalling Inspector, Leslie Smith, whilst he was at work at the Goathland. He will be sadly missed.
Weighbridge Teas is now closed until the February half term and then up to March, when it re-opens for every weekend. They have had a very busy year, exceeding last years total by a fair margin for which we thank you, their patrons. We all look forward to welcoming you back again next year.
I will finish off by wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year, and if it is, please remember us as all donations are gratefully received!
