16th and 17th June 2012

Wot a wet weekend. Ben has been busy double nailing the lineside fence we erected a while back; Stephen was painting steel racking units before re-erection whilst your scribe was cleaning the cottage floors, windows and toilets – I get all the glamorous jobs!
Sunday morning dawned damp, still, whilst it was time to open up the marquee ready for Hunmanby Silver Band to play during the afternoon. The weather, fortunately improved during the day and it was even sunny later on! Work has continued on the new gateway at the level crossing. The steel anti climb mesh has been moved across and the new hole cut through the fence rails (the palings were recovered and then adjusted to suit the new opening). After lunch it was back up the line to the mini digger. The Pway Dept had supplied us with further diesel so it was back to levelling the lineside spoil heaps and cutting down the lineside scrub. We are now nearly up to the 13 milepost and are now well on towards the foot crossing at The Grange.
Tomorrow we have the Olympic Torch coming through the station in the morning (it is travelling from Whitby to Pickering using 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley for most of the journey).
