We hope you all had a Merry (but not too) Christmas and didn’t over eat. With Boxing Day over it was back to work at the station. The north yard siding has been waiting a long time for its ash ballast at the far end to be spread and levelled. The reason it has been waiting is that wagons have been stored in the siding preventing us getting on with the job. A mornings work sorted that out and it looks much better now. There was a dire forecast this morning for heavy rain so we have been out attacking the blackthorn again – all day without any rain! The spikes are nasty stuff but the long reach pole saw does make it easier. Some of the timber there has been quite chunky so we have brought a trolley load back to keep the home fires burning.
In the paint shop the ceiling cracks have been filled and the first coat of white emulsion has been applied; the guttering for the lamp room has been top coated; and the door for the lamp room has been sanded, again, and had a couple of coats of undercoat applied.
Weighbridge Teas have returned and re-opened, allowing us to have warm drinks during the day again. They even brought Christmas cake with them!!!
