12th and 13th January 2013

Well we’ve had snow – about 2mm maximum! So much for the amber weather warning and constant ‘doom and gloom’ on the radio. With a full track possession currently in place we negotiated with PWay (the possession ‘owners’) to put a trolley on the track to move tools and materials. The reason is we have been out ‘up the line’ north of the station near The Grange clear felling lineside scrub and saplings from the west side embankment. Once we have finished there should be a new viewing opportunity from the forest drive of trains working ‘up the grade’. We have also removed some trees from around bridge 15 where they were coming out of or behind the retaining wall. There is still more to fell plus a load of burning to undertake, any offers?
Back at the station more paint had been applied to the new platform seat planks and a start has been made on repainting the walls and seating in the General Room.
Don’t forget passenger trains have now finished running until the February half term but works and freight traffic continues to run 24 hours a day on an ‘as required’ basis.
