Happy New Year to all our readers. Today was our annual ‘day off’. We started with a walk from Levisham to Newtondale Halt, checking for sites of old sidings and buildings before a train ride through to Grosmont. Here lunch was taken before we took the train through to Pickering and then back to our home station. We were joined on the train by several other Wombles out for a ride in the sunny weather.
Yesterday was not so good weather wise but it didn’t stop the workers. We have started the erection of a new lean-to on the paddock hut, increasing our ‘Empire of Sheds’ (not our quote). This is needed to keep our pallets, long marquee poles and chairs under cover as the sun and rain is rapidly reducing their life expectancy. We worked on the project until well after dark – flood lights are great things for keeping the workforce going. With regular heavy showers we had to keep retreating into the General Room, where further painting was undertaken on items for the lamp room.
