We’ve had a dry-ish weekend (if you discount the thick fog which appeared at 10.30 on Sunday morning and stayed all day)!
Our new paddock hut lean to is now erected and felt roofed ready to receive the pallets and chairs again.
Along the lineside near the Grange (half a mile north of the station) we have continued attacking the lineside scrub, concentrating this time on removing the trees around bridge 14. This was a damp job, some of the work having to be done whilst standing in the river!
In the Paint Shop (General Room), Richard has cleaned down all the windows ready for their repaint. Alexa has begun painting the new platform seat planks, together with some additional bits of cast iron guttering for the lamp room plus the windows now they are clean. The cast iron items were ordered from the foundry (Longbottoms of Holmfirth) at lunchtime on Friday and then delivered to Grosmont on Saturday morning before arriving here, by train, at lunchtime! You can’t get much better than that.
Passenger trains have now finished running until the February half term but works and freight traffic continues to run 24 hours a day on an ‘as required’ basis. We will still be on site each weekend working away. We hope to concentrate on getting more of the lineside cut back whilst passenger trains are absent, plus other works at the station including repainting the General Room.
