It was time for the Womble annual holiday, this time to the North West. The week was also a fact finding visit to most of the railways in that area, to see what we can learn or what we do better.
At the station the rest of the team were still hard at work. Weighbridge Teas were kept busy with a steady stream of customers wanting to buy drinks, cakes and ice creams. Grassy areas around the station were strimmed and we even had a call out to attend a lineside fire (from a member of the public), although no fire was found. It did enable a couple of staff to get a lift back on the engine though so they were not complaining.
Today it has been time for the big erections, with the marquees going up for next weekend’s 60’s event. The main one went up easily enough but the bar tent was more of a struggle. The poles were not labelled and it took several attempts to get everything in the right place. Needless to say the poles are now marked! The bar has been moved in, the barrel rack erected and the stage moved into place. All we need now is good weather and a good crowd. As usual York Brewery beer will be on offer in the beer tent, together with the usual wares from Weighbridge Teas and the Tea Hut.
Elsewhere the back of the Warehouse has had the cream area sanded and a coat of undercoat applied. A small notice board has been stripped of paint and a new back board made to replace the rotten original. Both have then been primed. Further .paint has been applied to the signal fittings for the new bracket signal.
Finally, two further loads of logs have been brought down to the station for disposal.
