Spladoosh, its been wet! It hasn’t curtailed our works, just made us damp. We have been monitoring the front of the General Room for about 3 years where a section above the door has been going rotten. Well it’s a problem no more. Stephen has carefully cut out the rotten wood, chiselled back to good wood and prepared new to go in. The new sections are now in undercoat and should get into top coat sometime this week.
Most of the signal fittings are now in black topcoat, having been painted in between the showers. Several other bits of metalwork have also been undercoated. On the signal posts themselves, one of the existing fittings has been removed as it is the wrong pattern, with a new one marked up for installation. We now have a list of parts we need to find to ensure we are ready for re-erection.
In the yard, we have dismantled one of the old wooden wagon under frames which was beyond even our restoration capabilities. The re-useable metal parts have been put into storage. The rotten timber was shovelled up and has gone up in smoke.
Weighbridge Teas were quiet this weekend after last weekends hectic work but its only the calm before the storm……
The marquees have been checked and are all ready for next weekends 70’s event when Abbalicious and The Glamned will be performing from 12-4 each day. The bar will be open again selling real ales from York Brewery and Weighbridge Teas and the Tea Hut will be selling their wares.
