If you thought last weekend was hot……… Its been Vintage Vehicle weekend and the station yard has been packed with cars, motorbikes and miniature traction engines. There were so many there was not enough space for any visitor’s cars or even our own staff’s! Not all the booked vehicles came but there was a good display by those that did.
In the paddock Jive Express performed over both days, with support from the Tea Hut and Real Ale bar. A good time was had by the band and all our visitors, with space in the shade becoming a premium as the temperatures rose. Following the end of the performance it was all hands to the pumps to tidy up the site, dismantle the stage and carry it all into store, dismantle the bar, clean it down and put it away, reinstate the marquee side poles and ropes and put the sides on.
Elsewhere around the station the GE van has had further layers of paint applied and the repair of the front of the General Room continued, with poor paintwork being stripped off. After a sand, primer was applied on the bare bits ready for a full undercoat next weekend. Second hand lead sheet has been prepared for installing above the ladies door where the timber is being repaired.
Up the line, the new petrol powered post hole borer has been tried out. It is great and a lot easier than the old hand borer we’ve previously used. We have got a further 13 posts installed, together with the associated rails. We now need to order some more fencing materials to help us continue the mammoth replacement works!
The Weighbridge has also been open over the weekend, and has been doing a roaring trade in ice cream as well as its other wares. They nearly ran out of vanilla ice cream!
