Cor, wot a scorcher! We have been ‘on tour’ again, this time to Pickering but not the station. We have been dismantling an old pig sty, for the old corrugated iron which we require for next years Wartime Weekend. The sty was heavily overgrown with bush and scrub and was not easy to dismantle, particularly on the hottest day of the year so far.
Back at the station, the Great Eastern van has had a couple of coats of undercoat over the primed sections and the dried out section has been treated with primer. Further work has been undertaken on the CCTV system, with a further camera installed together with the signage. On the General Room, the repaired wood has been painted and an adjacent plank, which was going rotten, has been removed and replaced with a spare out of stock. A start has been made on the doorframe of the Ladies Room which has started to suffer the same rot problem but this time we are in time before it gets too bad.
Weighbridge Teas have, not surprisingly, sold a lot of ice creams this weekend together with the usual cakes, sandwiches and pasties.
Next weekend is Vintage Vehicle with Jive Express performing in the paddock. The Real Ale tent will be selling 3 different York Brewery real ales and the Tea Hut and Weighbridge Teas will both be in operation. Come and see the old cars and motorbikes, some small live steam traction engines, listen to the music and have a drink, all at the same time. With all these extra vehicles, public car parking will be all but impossible so come to see us on the train.
