23rd-26th May 2014

After last weekends scorcher, this one has been more of a damp squib! Its been a 4 days weekend for most with Friday being a retraining and certification day on mini diggers. We are good now for up to 5 tonners! We also collected the timber parts for another 4 picnic tables. All we have to do now is build them…
North of the station we have reinstated the ¼ mile post at bridge 15 following its repaint. In readiness for tamping near Newtondale Halt we have moved some of the supply of rubber level crossing units to the lineside here. These will be used to upgrade a small crossing there to a remote house. The ash approaches to the level crossing have been dug out and replaced with road planings. Hopefully these should last better and not form potholes. Talking of potholes, we have also filled a lot of those in on the forest side road approach. Its is now a lot smoother to drive on.
The General Room floor has benefitted from a good sand down and a re-varnish. This should keep it smart for the rest of the year.
All the grass around the station has been cut and the edges strimmed neatly – it makes such a difference and makes the station look smart and well cared for.
To allow us to store our ‘new’ green marquee we have had to move around some of our other stores. This has involved 3 trips to and from the PW hut 1 mile south of the station!
Weighbridge Teas had a disappointing weekend trade wise (thanks to the weather) but they have been able to get the Tea Hut ready for 60’s weekend in 3 weeks. They have also fitted a new longer shelf inside the hut that can now take 2 microwaves.
