Well we are back from holiday in Norfolk, and a very pleasant time we had as well. The station was not un-manned whilst we were away. The new timber for another 4 picnic tables was given a good sanding and further scrap rail ends were cleaned down and prepared for painting. They make very good paperweights and /or door stops and are selling like the proverbial hot cakes. The vegetable patch is now planted with runner beans and sweet peas, grown from seed in a volunteer’s greenhouse before coming here. Weighbridge Teas were open as usual as well.
This weekend its been Womble Wigwam erection time, with both the marquee and large bar tent going up in the paddock. The grass had grown so much it needed cutting again before we could start. We got the canvas for the main marquee up just as the rain started but getting the other one up plus properly pegging down and putting on the side sheets meant we were all soaked by the end of it. The new stage is stacked inside ready for putting down next Friday evening and the bar accoutrements are laid out ready for the beer, which is being delivered this week.
Today was glorious, hot and sunny, a large contrast and we were back ‘home’ down the line near the distant signal, renewing the west side fence. This required quite a few ‘new’ posts and rails to make it presentable and secure again. Good job too, the cattle go in tomorrow!
Weighbridge Teas had another good day and are nearly ready for the hoped for invasion of visitors for next weekends 60’s event. This has included sorting out and stocking the Tea Hut in the paddock ready for next weekend.
