1st/2nd November 2014

We’ve had another glorious weekend with the weather, again. We have been working on the dock this weekend, getting it ready for the new non slip surfacing. This has involved adjusting the individual heights of the sleepers and fitting new infill panels at the van doorways (to prevent falls between the stock and the dock).
Both the compost bin (which has received new fronts) and the gardening shed have had a coat of fence paint to keep them looking neat.
Work has continued repairing one of our 4 wheel platform trolleys, with new woodwork now being fitted. The steel cross plates have been cleaned down and primed, as has other steelwork, angles and hinges etc. recovered from elsewhere.
We have cleaned off the remaining rail chairs ready for the level crossing and fitted up 4 spare sleepers with chairs as well. We will be renewing the signal box side track through the level crossing during the 2 weekends in November without a passenger train service (other trains continue to run). This work will also involve installing a new rubber level crossing deck in place of the timber one. It will be ‘all hands on deck’ for us to do this, but the end result will be worth it.
There is no gardening report this week as both our gardeners are ‘in the works’ for overhaul. We wish them both good health and look forward to seeing them again at the station soon.
Weighbridge Teas had another good weekend with plenty of visitors to keep them busy.
