The large notice board in the station yard has come in for a clean down and repair. Once we had got the screws out, which held it to the support frame, we could bring it onto the platform for work to commence. The cracked and poor paint was burnt off and the sections of rotten timber fillet were removed. It has been taken into the General Room to dry out for a while before the repaint commences in the spring. A temporary frame has been made to support the timetable poster in the meantime.
In the cottage top coat has been applied to the woodwork downstairs, continuing the smartening up of the property. Whilst the paint was out we have taken some picture rail out of store and painted it white. Why? So it can be used within the Archive Room at Pickering. To that end it was dispatched this afternoon on a Santa train (an early Christmas present for the archives!).
We took delivery on Saturday of a large quantity of non slip sheeting. This was purchased, again from station donations, to go on the loading dock where the timber sleepers become like ice rinks at this time of year. The majority of the sheets have gone down whole with only a few needing cutting to complete the job. Work continued in the dark on Saturday on the full sheets but we waited for daylight before doing the cutting. Boy do they make a difference though, particularly when its icy. There was just enough left to go on the signalmans walkway timbers outside the signal box. The signalman said it was much better but could we put some on the rails to stop them being slippery as well!?!
We have brought the award plaque to the station and have begun preparing a timber support board for it before it goes on proud display in the (award winning) Lamp Room itself.
We have used some short rubber level crossing panels to make a foot crossing over the yard entrance siding. This will save us having to hump loaded wheelbarrows over the rails and provide a safe walking route for the loco crew when the engine stops down near the ground frame. This was completed by torch light!
