Its all white at the station, with a couple of inches of frozen snow covering everything. Over the weekend it has melted slightly in the warming sun but there is still plenty left.
South, at Farwath, we have completed the scrub clearance on the East side down to bridge 12 (where we finish). There is now an awful lot of cut brash waiting to burn. We have also cut down several old ties from the telegraph poles. These metal stakes don’t do chainsaws or flails any good, which is why we recovered them. There is still some blackthorn scrub to clear on the West side, together with some small trees which are leaning towards the line. Something for another day.
North of the station we have completed clearing the river sides at the access bridge opposite Platelayers Cottages. Back towards bridge 15 we now have most of the logs out of the river and cut up. A lot of small scrub has also been cut back along the river bank, to open out the views.
Back at the station further layers of paint have been applied to the ¼ mile post, whilst both the 11 and a ¾ post are now also in the paint shop for ‘the treatment’. The latter post is unusual of the 4 we have done this winter as it’s the first which wasn’t wire wheeled and cleaned whilst it was snowing!
On the brake van the south end has received 2 top coats of paint.
Don’t forget that with passenger trains running for the Half Term, Weighbridge Teas re-open next weekend for the new season so come along and enjoy their wares again.
