Its been a busy week so far. We’ve been on our travels, with a trip to Suffolk and Norfolk on Monday! First up was a trip to Carlton Colville, and the East Anglia Transport Museum, where we collected a pair of old Great Eastern ground signals – why? They are the same bases as North Eastern ones. They were surplus to their needs and once restored, they will find use on our line. After this it was a short journey to Lingwood, where we collected some more edge units for our stage panels from the supplier. After an overnight stop, it was time to visit the Whitwell and Reepham Railway, who had a couple of spare rubber level crossing panels which our railway can use.
Today started very early, with the arrival of the tarmac contractor to finish the approaches to the level crossing. These are now much improved and help finish off the crossing. It was also a special day for our station with the formal unveiling of the award for the Lamp Room. We were joined by the Sponsor and representatives of the Heritage Railway Awards, the Wombles, our friends from Network Rail who helped build it; and John Bailey and Philip Benham. Following a couple of short speeches the Lamp Room was formally unveiled and it was time for photographs. A buffet lunch followed, catered in house of course, with a special cake for afters.
