Happy Easter. It has been lovely here today, much better than Good Friday! We’ve been cracking on with the brake van over the last 3 days, cleaning off the last sections of steel and burning off the last bits of old paint on the woodwork. Copious layers of paint have been applied to ceilings, verandas, sides and ends. The 2 new guards duckets have been fitted, bringing the external completion that much closer. It’s looking rather good. Several timber cover strips have been made and painted, prior to fitting tomorrow. The only problem we have is that we are running out of some shades of paint!
Stephen has continued with his tidy up of our stores, this time including the one just north of the level crossing. One of the kitchen cooker doors has also been repaired, where it was getting worn after lots of use! At the station, the second of the large platform trolleys now has most of its new wood frame completed with just the deck planks to complete. The large noticeboard at the yard entrance has been reinstated following its repair and repaint this winter.
Weighbridge Teas have had a good weekend so far, albeit with a slow start on Friday. They are now open every weekend through to the end of October, so come and see them, purchase some drinks and enjoy their cakes. They also have books, videos and rail door stops available for suitable donations and our ever popular Brief History booklets too.
