It has been another successful Easter week for the station. The brake van has come on in leaps and bounds, both internally and externally. The exterior is now substantially complete, with just the long side handrails to fit. The ten end windows are now in using 6mm laminated clear glass so we now have to be careful when passing tools into the van! All of the new hardwood beading to hold the glass in place has been made using timber out of our stores. A lot of mastic was used to seal it all in place.
Some parts of the floor were poor and these have been cut out and new timber inserted. Exposed steelwork under the floor was treated to a coat of primer at the same time.
A start has been made cleaning and freeing up the North Eastern/Great Eastern ground signal bases, which we recovered from Lowestoft. The main metalwork is cleaning down well but drilling out the seized nuts and bolts may take a while. The third platform trolley is now rebuilt, with lots of new woodwork framing and planking, and is just waiting a repaint. North of the station, the pine branches trimmed over the winter have been brought back for burning using several trips with the PWay trolley.
Weighbridge Teas were back for the weekend and although Saturday did well, the poor weather on Sunday didn’t bring out the crowds.
