This weekend we have had help from the Family and Junior Volunteers. Several families brought their tents and camped in the paddock.
They helped us undertake the following:
move new fence posts into store;
move sleepers down to their store on the lineside;
collect logs and load them into a landrover;
burn a lot of pine branches from a tree which fell down last year;
clean some hand-thrown bricks of their old mortar and carry them into our storage area;
paint ground signal parts;
sand and paint the interior of the brake van;
apply a coat of undercoat to the repaired Newtondale Halt sign;
strim and cut the grass in the paddock, station approach and lineside.
As you can see, the station has been a hive of activity!
We supplied dinner on Saturday evening for some of the volunteer families, together with our usual Wombles.
At the station the woodwork has been made for the Newtondale Halt sign and a coat of primer applied before it could be undercoated (see above). The warehouse has had a serious tidy up thanks to Mike (not Stephen for a change!). A new leaflet rack has been made by Stephen.
Weighbridge Teas were kept busy serving all these volunteers, plus our usual stream of visitors to the station.
