Happy Star Wars day (work it out yourself and then groan!). At the south end points further excavated ash has been spread and levelled. We are still waiting further ballast to complete the point work refurbishment. On the brake van the interior ceiling and the top half of the walls are now in white topcoat and look very smart. The north end veranda has had its black top coat applied to the steelwork, and half the timber floor has been reinstated. A new hardwood door step has been made to replace a rotten one. More mastic has been filled around the window frames to finish them off nicely.
At the station we have begun the slow job of freeing off the NER/GER ground signals we recovered from Lowestoft. The Warehouse is having a long overdue tidy up and re-sort. The viewing area opposite the signal box has had a final tidy up and its ash topped up following the winter works we undertook there. The pine branches stacked north of the station have been burnt and the area tidied up ready for the next fire.
Weighbridge Teas had a good Bank Holiday weekend, even if the weather was poor at times. They have had a minor reorganisation inside the building to help display the wares better, after being given a brand new display fridge by a regular patron. A minor leak has come down the Weighbridge chimney, so the top has been resealed (a plastic cover sits on the top of the chimney pot!). Some brickwork rebuilding will be needed on the chimney stack as the frost has loosened some of the bricks.
