It’s been back to the 60’s this weekend on our railway. Levisham hosted the New Amen Corner and Little Miss 60’s, who performed in the paddock to the crowds on both Saturday and Sunday. Weighbridge Teas, The Tea Hut and the Bar in the Paddock were all open and all had a steady trade. However before this can happen a lot of setting up is required on Friday afternoon and evening, plus each morning. Beer was delivered to the station and needed setting up; the grass had to be cut; signage set up; no waiting cones on the road approaches to the station laid out (to ensure the road was clear for emergency services if required); sandwiches, cakes and goodies organised. Oh, and at the end of the event it all has to be tidied up! Don’t forget it all has to go back out in a fortnight for the 70’s weekend.
Around the rest of the station, the 2 mileposts we have for repainting have been breeding! When we checked on Saturday another ½ mile post had appeared for repainting. This one has therefore been cleaned down and joined the other 2 in the repainting process. The Newtondale Halt running in board has now had its final coats of paint applied and is ready to return home. The second 4 wheel platform trolley has been completed and is now in use. Inside the brake van the lower half has received its first coat of Brunswick green top coat.
The new lean to shed for the 2 trolleys now sports its side and one door panel and houses the trolleys. The slatted sides have been made from recycled short fence rails and match that on the paddock hut.
The chimney stack on the Weighbridge has been carefully taken down and the bricks cleaned. This is because it has been frosted and the mortar had perished. It should be reinstated this week, all being well.
