Vehicle Weekend.
The weekend started early, with a visit from 4 Network Rail staff on Friday, coming to Levisham for a days charity work. They built 3 more picnic benches (to our standard pattern), 2 more for our paddock and 1 for Goathland (which is now awaiting delivery by train). Once that was completed they helped us set up the temporary flooring in both marquees and get it ready for the weekend’s events.
The paddock has been in full swing with Jive Express entertaining our visitors with 60’s music, whilst the Tea Hut and The Paddock Bar kept everyone fed and watered. In our yard there was a goodly collection of Vintage cars and motorbikes, together with a miniature traction engine, as well as vehicles on the grassland next to the level crossing. Weighbridge Teas kept these people looked after as well.
Around the station, the Levisham nameboard has had its new bottom bar fitted and then the whole thing has been repainted. On the brake van, more footboards have been prepared for reinstatement and further steelwork underneath repainted at the south end. The 2 mileposts are now in top coat and just await the black lettering. The latest platform trolley receiving attention has had loose and rotten screws replaced and a couple of coats of primer applied. Our PAT testers have been here all weekend, checking all our electrical equipment, together with some new equipment we have been donated over the year.
