Apologies for the delays in this getting to you, but the railway has been having a minor problem with the website. This is now sorted and we are back to normal.
The workshop coach (Hannah) in the yard is looking a lot smarter following its repainting. This coach is 135 years old and was built in York, it now sports its original North Eastern Railway colour (minus lining out!). The face on the end is now undergoing a spruce up. The Tea Hut roof is starting to wear out, so we have begun constructing a new timber frame and steel sheet roof. Nearly all of the material is recycled, in best Wombling tradition. Our chippies have begun work on repairing another hand cart – one of the main handle spars has rotted through so they have made a new one. Fortunately our colleagues in Carriage & Wagon in Pickering may be able to help to make the rough piece using their large saw bench, so it just needs shaping to match the original. C & W may also cut some frame units out of hardwood we had in store for our Palvan, which needs one of its door repairing. Cleaning of the glass on the platform lamps continues to remove all the fly muck and keep them looking smart.
On Saturday night we had the annual BBQ at the station. A goodly number of Wombles, plus invited guests, enjoyed a pleasant evening of company, home made food and drink, and Eton Mess. We put up the bar tent for the evening, just in case, which was fortuitous as a shower did come along mid evening.
Weighbridge Teas had another good weekend, although this afternoons rain did dampen the end of the day.
