After last week’s white stuff, it’s done nothing but drop wet stuff this weekend. The Santa Specials have started running, and some of the Weighbridge Teas staff have been out helping on the trains and at Pickering.
At the station, work has concentrated on indoor jobs, including one or two minor repairs undertaken in the volunteer cottage. In the General Room, work has continued to repair the Meschersmitt tail unit, with new plywood frames made to replace the rotten originals. The castings for the new NER bracket signal have been re-measured, to confirm the timber sizes before we begin cutting the signal dolls to size.
In the yard, work has continued to clear the storage area; splitting the large dumpy bags of building materials into smaller loads so we can move them around easier.
We also had a trip up to Bridge 14, to remove some small pine trees which had self-seeded on the lineside as they were too close to the line. These have been brought back to the station and replanted in an area clear of the line to grow on for possible use for future Christmases.
