6th 7th, and 8th November 2015

On Friday we welcomed back the Velocipedes for their third autumn visit. A total of 11 different machines, including one from across the sea, turned up and went on several jaunts up to Platelayers Cottages and back. An excellent time was had by all. Weighbridge Teas did a good job selling hot drinks, soup, sandwiches and pasties to the velocipede teams.
In the brake van, the desk has been painted and the fire back plate frame fitted to the wall. The North Eastern handcart is now repaired, with a new support and carrying spar completing the works to the body. A start has been made on repainting the whole cart, prior to going back on display.
The Meschersmitt fuselage has been carefully dismantled to allow the rotten timber framing to be replaced. The aluminium skin has been beaten flat to remove the bashes it has received in its ‘crash landings’. On the dock, the outside working area has been tidied up and prepared to accept a new workbench. Additional non slip sheeting has been laid over the slippery sleepers.
Weighbridge Teas had a quiet weekend (bar Friday), due to the poor weather, and are now closed until Christmas week.
Although the daily train service has now finished, don’t forget the Santas – which run every weekend from the 28th November up to Christmas. This doesn’t mean that trains are no longer running though, as Engineering Trains will be all over the line moving materials and people to and from the renewal sites.
