We’ve had another day of cutting and burning on Saturday at milepost 14 with (after many false starts) an excellent fire, which ate a lot of scrub.
Persistent drizzle on Sunday morning, together with a poor forecast for later, kept us at the station, but it didn’t stop us working! The shed base has been prepared ready for concreting on the 29th (all being well), with a final check of the base and fixing of the reinforcement into place. Spoil at the far end of the yard has also been spread and levelled. One of our vans needs 2 new doors, so we have sheeted the vehicle over so we can work on it even in poor weather. Inside our winter paint shop Alexa has been kept busy varnishing and painting various items.
Next weekend we start our Winter Work Week – 9 days of continuous work!?! We have several projects lined up and, as usual, the more help we get the more we can do. Both undercover and outside jobs are planned so we can work around the weather. If you can offer any time, please ring me on 07764 390689 this week or email me on simon.barraclough2@networkrail.co.uk. Refreshments are available, but bring plenty of food to keep your energy levels up! Accommodation is available for those who want to stay for a few days.

Don’t forget in March Weighbridge Teas will be open every day that Flying Scotsman will be running along our line. They will be selling hot and cold drinks, sweets, biscuits and cakes, together with their popular hot pies, bacon rolls and soup.
