After a poor start, weather wise, the weekend just got better and better.
North of the station, on the west side, we have planted another 23 new fence posts, continuing where we left off last weekend. Hopefully we should get the rails fixed in place next weekend, when we welcome some families to come and join in. Further north, on the east side this time, the final 4 fence posts have been installed. This work was not possible earlier as the land was waterlogged – fortunately our drainage efforts worked and the land is nice and firm now. Again the rails should be fixed next weekend.
At the station, the next Meschersmitt wing was come out of store and a good start made on its repair. You never know, we may even finish this next weekend as well! One of our van doors has now been put back together and given a couple of coats of undercoat. It may be a few weeks before we get this one fixed! On the General Room, some rotten door surround has been cut out and new timber let in. Some mastic and paint followed. Further coats will be required to complete the works. A start has been made on painting the new Yard shed in traditional wood preservative. The section done looks really good. The Weighbridge table and setts have been cleaned of winter wood and detritus, the gardens tidied up and prepared for more flowers and the grass has been cut – again; it does keep growing (just like the weeds).
Weighbridge Teas had another good 3 day weekend, with a steady flow of customers each day. They were very proud to win the trophy for best dressed Scottish Tea Room on the whole railway! Well done to them and look out for the award on display. Do we need to get a trophy cabinet?!?
