Saturday started frosty but clear. North of the station we were back on fencing, installing a further 22 post and rails. Alongside us was a superb display of primroses, and steam engines passing regularly made it just perfect. Back at the station, the roofing felt has been fixed onto the rafters of the new shed. Although the felt and the slate battens are new, we are using recycled slates.
The gardeners were back to continue the regular weeding and sorting of our flower beds.
Sunday continued mostly fine, so it was back on the roof fixing slates. By the end of the day all the slates that can be fixed had been, the rest will have to wait until the walls and rafters are completed at the south end. A start has also been made on the manufacture of the doors. Two have been completed and are nice and sturdy. At the same time the door surrounds have been fixed to the framing and the hinges brought out of store ready for use.
Elsewhere, the painting of the turntable parts has been completed (until more steelwork is cleaned off!). The Newtondale Halt sign has had further coats of paint applied – it’s now getting close to being finished! Another thing that has been finished is the repair of one of the Meschersmitt wings. This will now go into store until it is taken away for repainting.
Weighbridge Teas have been in all weekend and have had a steady trade, although they always have capacity to serve more visitors!
