The midges have been out with a vengeance this weekend!
First up was the big erections. The beer tent was first, and it went together smoothly thanks to help from the Junior Volunteers. Whilst the paddock grass was cut a tea break beckoned, before a start was made on the main marquee. Again this went together very well, with plenty of labour to help. All the chairs have come out of store and been cleaned ready for use. The stage has been wheeled into the marquee ready for laying. Inside the beer tent the bar, barrel stand and table are ready. The lower branches of the trees behind the marquee have been pruned as they were touching the canvas. We are now looking forwards to next weekend’s 70’s music.
The ‘Wombles On Tour’ banners and Womble Supervisor have been out and about on Saturday. Two of the team were working at Goathland, using a mini digger to excavate their new shop foundations. Lots of spoil was dug and then barrowed clear of the site. To help them today, we sent up one of our concrete mixers (to go with their own), so they could mix and complete the foundations in one day.
Back at the station, the four mileposts have received their final coats of paint and are now ready for delivery back to site. Our bricklayers have completed the blockwork inner skin of the new yard shed during the week, which allowed us to make a start cladding it with timber. Looking at the front now you can’t see the joint! The two doors we made a few weeks ago have been hung and look rather smart.
North of the station, the fence rails have been fixed onto the new posts and minor lopping of blackthorn scrub nearby undertaken. Strimming of the roadside has also been undertaken, ready for next weekend (it’s all growing far too fast at present!).
Weighbridge Teas were kept busy serving all the Juniors, plus our visitors as well.
