Normal service is now resumed! Last week was the annual Womble research trip (holiday), this time to the Midlands. Several railways were visited to see what we could learn from (or reassure ourselves how good we are). We returned on Saturday evening, where we met the diner waiting at Levisham for time – it was nice seeing a big steam engine!
A glorious day today encouraged us up and about. The grass has been given a much needed cut (it’s had a fortnights growing!) and the edges strimmed. 30 fence posts, delivered whilst we were away, have been moved from the yard onto the fencing sites north of the station. 12 posts have subsequently been installed and a top rail fitted.
At the station the second half of the 15 mile post has been cleaned off, primed and undercoated. The other 3 mile posts have received under and top coats of white gloss. The remaining timber for the new shed doors has been delivered and stacked ready for use. The railways building team have laid most of the blockwork wall for the second half of the shed for us. Hopefully they will complete the last few courses this week, so we can complete the roof work.
Weighbridge Teas had another good weekend, thanks to the weather, with lots of ice cream sold, alongside cakes and sandwiches.
It’s only a fortnight now until our first event of the season, with The Glamned and Monty performing their 70’s hits in the paddock, with support from the Tea Hut and the Womble Real Ale and Perry Bar. Next weekend will therefore be the big erections – the marquee and bar tent will be going up and being fitted out.
