Cor wot a scorcher during the week – and this weekend’s not been bad either!
All the undercoat and most of the top coat has now been applied to the East side of the Camping Coach. Hopefully we will get it completed next weekend (weather permitting!). The repaired outdoor seat for the Coach has also had its top coats completed.
New, longer, side poles for the marquee have been made and painted ready for use at Wartime (it’s not long now!). A start has been made on a large timber frame for one of the key exhibits for this year’s event. Bet you can’t tell what it is yet! More poster boards are being manufactured, as a homework project, and will carry more period French Café posters.
In the yard, the wiring inside the new shed has been completed and awaits final testing and certification, hopefully next weekend. A pre-loved larger water butt has been donated to the station. This has been placed next to the shed and awaits the gutter modifying to feed it. The water here will be used to keep the gardens nearby well watered.
The grass strimming has continued around the station, thanks to the Juniors, and a start has been made on the annual cutting of the land opposite the cottage, again ready for Wartime Weekend.
Weighbridge Teas had another good weekend and they too have been getting ready for both the Steam Gala and Wartime Weekend, ensuring they have enough cups, plates and accoutrements. The food pantechnicon will follow! Don’t forget that during the Gala there will be a bar open from Friday to Sunday inclusive (11-7) at the station for those who would like to enjoy a beer, as well as Weighbridge Teas, whilst watching the trains pass.
